Vile (2011) – HORROR MOVIE REVIEW

“Vile” is not a movie for the faint of heart. It is a torture film in the vein of the Saw films. If you liked those then you will love “Vile”. The story centers around a group of strangers who all wake up in a small room with devices attached to the back of their necks. They soon discover what these devices are. They learn through a video that automatically plays telling them that the only way out of the house is through excruciating pain and producing a certain amount of the liquid. The devices contain two viles. One has poison that will be injected into their bodies in the event that they do not produce the liquid in the time allotted. the other is to collect the liquid secreted by the brain when the body goes through terrible pain. Once the vile is full they may leave. But will they leave whole both physically and mentally? The captors are collecting this secretion through the kidnapping of strangers by baiting them with a woman who has apparently run out of gas in her car. She then gasses the unsuspecting good Samaritans.

I don’t generally like these types of films but I am happy to say I did like this one. Most of these torture movies have no distinct ending. They just loop into the next one. Although this one could do that, there is some closure for several of the characters (and audience), and I liked that. I guess us Americans like a film that has no loose ends or questions left up in the air. I know I do. Sure it doesn’t rule out a Vile 2, but I felt satisfied by the end of the flick, and that says a lot for me. I just do not like these films because of lack of storyline and gruesome shots just for the sake of being gory. Vile does have a pretty decent storyline and much of the gore is left to your imagination. I also like that.

In conclusion I have to admit that this is a film worth the watch if you like torture movies. “Vile” is done better than most that I have seen and they did it with a pretty cool story. Now I must get back to my Disney films to help me recuperate from the things that I just saw. If I could only get up from this fetal position I am now in as a result of watching “Vile”.

Rating: 7/10 – Gives a whole new meaning to the expression GETTING HAMMERED
