Tracy Morgan: Staying Alive (2017) Free on Netflix

I always liked Tracy Morgan.  I loved him on Saturday Night Live.  He was on it when it was actually funny.  He was the best part of 30 ROCK and was hilarious in the comedy FIRST SUNDAY (2008), the underrated COP OUT (2010) and most recently FIST FIGHT (2017).

Netflix has recently produced a bunch of stand-up comedy shows.  Dave Chappelle’s comeback, Kevin Hart’s latest, Norm McDonald, Amy Schumer and Joe Rogan are just a few of the comedians that Netflix worked with.

As for Tracy Morgan’s comeback since the tragic accident he was in, it was awesome.  Typically, I dislike humor that is overly crude and sexual.  For example, I’d rather watch GIGLI than an Andrew Dice Clay special.  Still, Morgan has a likability that other comedians can’t pull off.

There’s a sweetness and a genuineness to him that creates a comfort level even when he’s saying the most over-the-top things.

Not all of his jokes were about gratuitous sex.  A large portion was involving his family, his struggle after the accident, his relationship with his wife and overall maturity.

TRACY MORGAN: STAYING ALIVE is a full hour of entertainment, insight, and great comedy.  It’s definitely one of the best comedy specials in a very long time.  I hope NETFLIX signs him for a second one as they did Dave Chappelle.

As a fan, I’m delighted that Morgan has recovered and shared his experiences, both good and bad.  I look forward to his future endeavors both with film and stand-up.
