Sick Girl (2006) – MASTERS OF HORROR REVIEW

Lucky McKee, the man behind THE WOMAN and MAY has a great talent for making memorable female characters and he does it again in the MASTERS OF HORROR tale “SICK GIRL,” an incredibly fun watch.

Ida (Angela Bettis) works with bugs and she loves her job. She brings her job home and her entire apartment is full of bugs. This has put a damper on her love life, but she has Max (Jesse Hlublik) for support and advice. He tries to help and tells her to hold off on the bugs until she gets to know a girl and she takes him up on that advice, keeping her career a secret from a love interest in Misty (Erin Brown). They click immediately.

It was nice to see Erin Brown (AKA – Misty Mundae) in a non-skin flick. She made a career with films like PLAYMATE OF THE APES, LORD OF THE G-STRINGS and SPIDERBABE, but she has always had that charisma and she’s not a bad actress. She does really well in this film and when she gets together with Bettis, they are amazing together. I found myself laughing continually as I watched this. As crazy as the character of Ida is, Bettis pulls it off and makes it real. I was very impressed and amused by her performance.

While the two girls get to know each other, a bug gets loose. This bug was sent to Ida from an unknown source and starts causing trouble. Misty gets infected and her personality changes. She becomes angry and volatile and the relationship starts to become strained, until Ida figures out what’s going on. The bug is trying to reproduce using the bodies of female humans and he has Misty and Ida in his sights.

SICK GIRL is one of my favorite of the series. I would have loved to see more. Bettis is hilarious and I could watch her portrayal of this character endlessly. This tale is fantastic and well worth a watch.

Rating: 8/10
