Deep Inside by Polly Frost: A Scared Stiff Book

On the cover of the book is the phrase: “Extreme Erotic Fantasies,” which was great news to me. I have never read an Extreme Erotic Fantasies book before and because this is part of my job here at Scared Stiff, I could justify reading it to my wife and not worry about camping out on the couch. Written by Polly Frost, Deep Inside is a compilation of stories, all of which are interesting and unusual, but they are unusual in a good way. In this day and age, you will see the same stuff regurgitated in both book and movie form, but Frost does not follow this trend, giving everyone of us a window into her brain, and providing us with unique stories that could easily be made into an anthology on film. I would go as far to say that each one of these stories has the potential to be a successful feature film.
Frost pulls no punches, holds nothing back, and delivers ten tales, each of which are bound to compel you right away. This is wonderfully written book, and as you read, you become engulfed. Frost knows how to develop a character and she doesn’t rely on sex to sell this or to even move it along. There is a great deal of Eroticism in this book, but the focus is on the character and the character development, which is why I absolutely loved it. What Frost did so well in this book is to make it enjoyable for a wider audience. I think that anybody that picks this up, whether they be horror fans, fans of the erotic, or fans of neither will enjoy this, if they approach it with an open mind and aren’t offended by sex in and of itself.
Frost displays her dark side at times, presenting a bleak picture, but she paints the picture vividly, and she provides the reader with some surprises, maintaining the interest and keeping you guessing. There is also something here that I really enjoyed that may be overlooked by some. Frost has a knack for displaying human nature realistically in an unreal situation, and also shows the peer pressure that many young women and men go through in high school, which I thought was done very well. The way that this book is presented, it is believable, even though the situations can be absurd. Frost is a very talented writer and I doubt that anyone will be screaming that they want their money back after reading this one. I really enjoyed it, and especially liked the tale: Viagra Babies. It is demented and brilliant. The idea of “Viagra Babies” and people addicted to Viagra seems silly, but as you get into the story, that initial feeling disappears. The characters once again sell the story.
Another tale that was very amusing and entertaining was “The Pleasure Invaders,” covering “evil sex beasts from the next galaxy.” Serzan is the name of the alien force and they become “sexual crack” for humankind, even though they are strange in appearance…very strange. The mix of science fiction and eroticism is a nice blend that I really enjoyed and I’m not really a big fan of this sort of story, but it just works. This entire book is well worth a read. It is very well written and flows very well…an easy read that is unique and extremely compelling. I highly recommend this one.
