AMC’s “INTO THE BADLANDS: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON” is being released on November 8th on Blu-Ray, Digital HD and DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment. The series mixes a lot of different elements seen before but the combination is unlike anything else out there. A post-apocalyptic setting, mixed with some steam punk, western vibe and an elite group trying to establish themselves as the masters of the badlands. An action drama with plenty of blood and fighting but solid writing make this series an amazing watch.

Seven elite dictators known as “Barons” protect their resources and attempt to acquire more through their fighting armies known as “Clippers.” Sunny (Daniel Wu) is the master clipper with tattoos on his back, representing the death toll. His killing is down to a science and his role as a clipper has defined him as a human. He avoids any relationship and just works in the badlands for Baron Quinn (Martin Csokas). Sunny continues his murderous ways but comes across a locked chest, guarded by several bad guys. After they are obliterated, he opens it up to find M.K. (Aramis Knight), a teenager on the run. This relationship and a romantic interest begins his inner journey and hope to escape.

The Widow (Emily Beecham), a rival to Quinn, has an army of her own, but she is not afraid to get her hands dirty. Her fighting scenes are some of the best in the series with her flexibility and demeanor proving to be very compelling.

INTO THE BADLANDS really does everything right and the first season of this program proves to be one of those binge-watching types of shows. The fight scenes are so well choreographed and violently beautiful. The Widow steals the show at times, but Sunny’s soul-searching that is featured throughout is a big part of the draw. Attention is paid to every detail and the show picks up steam as it moves along. It’s an addictive show.

I highly recommend INTO THE BADLANDS. It’s a well-written drama, an explosive action film with some Mad Max mixed in. The presentation and visuals are amazing and it comes with plenty of bonus features.
