“The goal of the video is to have the most blood ever in a music video. We can’t have the most blood without Lloyd Kaufman there.”

I usually don’t review music videos or the “behind the scenes” of a music video, but when Troma kingpin, Lloyd Kaufman, suggested I do so, in the interest of horror, I agreed. The group New Found Glory is a band that I became aware of about a month ago because of their bloody video with horror elements, “ONE MORE ROUND.” They’ve got a very catchy sound that I would consider punk more than metal, but their hearts are with horror and that is why they recruited THE TOXIC AVENGER creator, Lloyd Kaufman, to advise.

New Found Glory sets out to make the bloodiest video, set against a white backdrop and they include a hockey mask and chainsaw, giving praise to the classics FRIDAY THE 13TH and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. The deaths are interesting and the blood is everywhere and Kaufman does a good job of working with the band and bringing his brand of humor to the making of video.

Kaufman does a lot of the interviewing of the band and he is able to bring a lot of them out of their shell with his cartoon-character persona. Like him or hate him, there is only one Lloyd Kaufman and his love of indie film and music is very apparent in this video.

The video becomes a bloodbath and even Lloyd gets covered. It may have ruined his bowtie and nice suit…or fair suit. He takes a picture with the band and rejoices in their work and what they accomplished. They wanted to make a horror video full of blood and that’s exactly what they did. You’ll be hard pressed to find another music video to compare to the amount of red they splashed around.

For horror fans, this video is worth a watch and the song is pretty catchy and energetic. From a filmmaker’s standpoint, it was interesting to see the methods they used for the kills. Everything was practical and that is what I like to see. You really got to see how they shot the video as well and that was very interesting to me. Any filmmaker would probably walk away from this with ideas.
