“Know him? I trained him.” – Colonel Hogan (David Campbell)

I thought that Rambo was bad. I did, but that was before I was introduced to Danton (Ted Prior), a Vietnam vet that gets tied up into a game of death with his former teacher, Colonel Hogan (David Campbell). Hogan leads a team of mercenaries that hunt and kill human prey, and they have been very successful until they made the mistake of picking up Danton randomly and putting him in the game.

Danton’s survival skills are in full effect when he is told to run and the bodies of the mercenaries begin to pile up, and unlike Rambo, Danton has no issue killing everyone. Hogan sees the dead bodies and recognizes the style, noting “that’s my style.” He realizes that his men picked up his student, Danton and now he’s in for a tough night.

Meanwhile, Danton’s wife Jaimy (Suzanne Tara) reports to her father (Cameron Mitchell) that her husband was kidnapped and he will use his 30 years of experience in investigation to track down Danton and figure out what happened to him. Jaimy’s father is the most amusing character in this film. (Spoiler) I’m so upset that they killed him off like that.

When Hogan realizes that Danton is too much to handle, he needs some leverage and kidnaps and then rapes his wife. Now, it’s a fight to the death and the rage causes Danton to chop off a guy’s arm and beat him to death with it and then scalp him!

The final showdown between Danton and Hogan is memorable and overall, this movie is fantastic. It is totally over the top, hilarious, and jam-packed with bad action lines and violence. I really liked the level of gratuity and found myself laughing through a great deal of it. I especially liked Jaimy’s father in it and his speech to the money-man behind the mercenaries. Another part that I really enjoyed was when a mercenary said: “We’re not hunting him, he’s hunting us,” and the head mercenary answered by taking out his gun and shooting him, stating: “Suck on this.” Hilarious.

DEADLY PREY is Rambo on steroids. If you like action films, you are going to really enjoy this.

Scared Stiff Rating: 7.5/10. I now know that Rambo is a pussy.
