Horror shorts often, pardon the expression, get short changed in the reviewing community. It’s nigh impossible to give many of them “proper” reviews as the truncated length doesn’t give a writer much to comment on.
With this in mind, I will try to highlight the creators and their works. Giving them a bit of a spotlight while also showing a neglected side of the horror genre from a different perspective.
Today we spotlight, jack of all trades, Issac Carey Nejako.
I first learned of Mr. Nejako via his tumblr page. Like many tumblrs it was mainly about goofy jokes and similar interests that we connect with each other.
After taking a break, Issac came back with more of his own work and I really enjoyed it. The more I looked into him and his work, the more I found. He’s done a bit of everything from music, illustration, directing, writing and all side of video and film production. Today, we will be focusing on some of Issac’s directorial work.
One of his most popular horror short subjects is the beautifully directed “Picnic of the Living Dead” (2008)
Co written by Alexis Perkins, Jake Young and Issac Carey Nejako. This horror/comedy hybrid is exactly what it’s says on the tin. A family of zombies goes to the country only to have more then ants ruin their picnic. Clocking in at six minutes and fifty seconds, the short is visually beautiful, with a few good laughs along the way.
It’s a great opening course to a night of horror movies with friends.
For those just looking for a quick bite, the new short series “The Wee Vampire” (2014) might be up your alley.
Written by Melanie J McDonald and starring by Joshua Redford, this series shows the misadventures of Victor, the titular vampire, as he rises from his matchbox “coffin” each night to feed.

There are just two shorts (and a behind the scenes video) as of this writing, but I hope to see more from this series.
The short nature of theses really works with the premise.I love the look of these and enjoy the sketch comedy feel of the character.
