I was so excited when I heard that Chucky had returned and that Brad Dourif was still voicing him. I am such a diehard Chucky fan. I even loved Seed of Chucky (2004). There is just something amazing about that doll.
My one worry with Seed of Chucky was that there wasn’t really anywhere to go. They went as far as they could with the dark comedy element. I didn’t want them to devolve into Freddy’s Dead (1991) territory with all the stupid cameos. The Child’s Play ended on a high note with a John Waters cameo. On the other hand, I couldn’t see it return to its original freakfest tone. We’ve seen too much of Chucky being funny, witty and strange.
I first saw the preview for Curse of Chucky a few months ago and I knew then that it looked awesome. I have been anticipating it ever since.
The movie opens when wheelchair bound Nica (Fiona Dourif) gets a package in the mail. She opens it up to find a Good Guys doll. She thinks it’s odd and doesn’t see a sender.
Later that night, her mother is found dead. She is thought to have killed herself. Soon, Nica’s overbearing and rude sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti) shows up with her husband Ian (Brennan Elliott), young daughter Alice (Summer H. Howell), the nanny Jill (Maitland McConnell) and the family priest (A. Martinez).
Nica gives Chucky to Alice who instantly falls in love with it. Meanwhile, Barb tries to convince Nica to sell the house so she can cash in. Unbeknownst to most present, Barb is having an affair with Jill.
Chucky begins his wonderful crime spree and the bodies begin to pile up. Nica slowly becomes suspicious of the doll and calls the postal company to find out it was sent from an evidence room. She uses the internet to find out about the crimes in 1988 with Andy (Alex Vincent).
From beginning to end this was fantastic. It was extremely similar in tone to the first one but acknowledged the fourth and fifth installments.
Chucky is as hilarious as ever. The overall acting was great. The tie-ins with the first one and Charles Lee Ray’s ultimate death was brilliant.
The acting was fantastic. Fiona Dourif proved she was far more than just the daughter of horror icon Brad Dourif’s. She definitely has a great acting ability.

I went in with high expectations and was still impressed.
This is definitely worth buying and for those who have the patience, wait until Halloween to throw it in. You won’t be sorry.
