EVIL BONG (2006) – HORROR/COMEDY Movie Review

Charles Band movies have always been a little obscure, the sort of movies you either like or take a disliking to and most of his movies I have found entertaining, especially, the puppet master collection and the, Gingerdead Man collection, so was sure I was not going to be disappointed with this one…

A shy college student Alistair Mcdowell (David Weidoff) appears at an apartment that three relaxed outgoing drug friendly dudes live, Larnell (John Patrick Jordon) Bachman (Mitch Eakins) and Brett (Brian Lloyd) and wishes to rent a room, therefore it is a kind of an wakening to the shy Alistair, as these guys are party animals and love the weed and therefore invest in a bong, and even though it comes with a warning, the dudes brush it aside and soon begin to use it… The bong is possessed and likes to take your soul, and one by one they are enticed to smoke more and drawn in to the bongs web that becomes stronger and forms a human like appearance as it takes their souls one by one, leaving there human shells empty.

This move is simply a comedy/horror, as some great scenes and plenty of youth humour. And there are some great characters such as Larnell’s grandfather, Cyril (Jacob Witkins) a hard talking no nonsense man with his new wife, an aging old lady, in which I thought was hilarious. The Gingerdead Man also makes an appearance.

The evil bong being spoken by (Michele Mais) in which she is superb, making it sound very seductive.

As the story unfolds, Alistair falls in love with Janet (Kristyn Green) a friend of Brett’s girlfriend. Though soon Janet falls under the spell of the bong and it is left to Alistair, along with the former owner of the bong, Jimbo Leary, (Thomas Chong) to figure out how to rescue her and the others. So begins the battle to defeat the bong in a hilarious way…

This is a movie of the power of drugs, the entanglement of reality mixing with illusion, the horrifying effect of loss of control. A warning to potential heavy drug users… or perhaps just a silly watchable fun filled movie… Charles Band, you never fail to amaze me.
